Material facts

You are reminded of your obligation to disclose all material facts when requesting a quotation, applying for cover or for renewal of your policy. A material fact is one that could affect the policy any way and includes (but not restricted to): property of unusual construction, previous claims, subsidence in the area, bankruptcy or criminal offences, nature of tenants living in the property. If you are in doubt if a fact is material it must be disclosed - either it will not affect the premium and terms (in which case it did not matter to the insurer) or it will affect the premium and terms (in which case were you to have a claim and not disclose the material facts, the insurer might have turned down your claim.)
