Before we go any further, you are reminded of your duty to disclose material facts before you take out your policy, at each renewal and whenever they change. Failure to disclose material facts is a criminal offence and can result in your policy not protecting you in the event of a claim and the insurance company (after having paid all claims made against you) coming after you to recover all the money they have paid out. Examples of material facts for motor insurance are: unspent convictions, disabilities, modified vehicles, failure to declare accurately where the vehicle is kept, young or poor additional drivers, high mileage, unusual use. This list is not exhaustive if you are in doubt whether a fact is material it should be disclosed.

We operate several self drive hire insurance schemes for the self drive hire specialist or even a firm wishing to operate as a self drive hire business as a secondary concern. The policy we normally recommend is a pay as you hire scheme that only charges you for the days that the vehicles are actually on hire. If this is not suitable e.g. because you hire out prestige, expensive vehicles then a more traditional policy is available.

One of a range of policies put here as being the best place for it. GAP insurance (not to be confused with GAP travel insurance) covers the shortfall between an insurance company's offer (and you know how stingy a direct insurance company can be) and the balance outstanding on a car loan. There are many options available but for the normal motorist the two to consider are : finance gap - paying the outstanding amount on a car loan after the total loss offer is made and 'back to invoice' - paying the difference between the total loss offer and the original purchase price. Also available is cover for taxis and HGVs as well as fleets on contract hire.
Since many direct companies issue policies with a high excess you may wish to take out excess insurance. An excess insurance policy pays a fixed amount, typically the excess on your policy, should you make a claim that exceeds the excess on your policy and you can't recover (windscreen claims are not covered).
