Cheap car insurance quotes are available at Portwoods. As Insurance Brokers, We have arranged access to several major providers of cheap car insurance. From our site you can access three online providers all of which offer excellent rates and cover - but for different types of drivers. You can also contact us on 0870 7456247 if you have any special needs e.g. convictions, accidents, young drivers or imported vehicles.
You should also ensure that the cover provided is suitable. You should also ensure that you take out your policy through a Broker. They are obliged to put your best interests first (and offer a range of policies unlike a direct company like direct line who offer very few different policies) and will discuss your needs to make sure that the cover you obtain will be the cover you most need.

You must disclose all material facts when applying for cover. It is important that when obtaining a quote, you provide full information of all factors which could affect the policy. A Broker will use this information to obtain a policy suitable and competitively priced and furthermore that the company knows all the information they need to know. If you insure through a direct company it is up to you to provide the information that they require. If you get it wrong and make a claim it may be refused. You would use an Accountant to help you with tax returns, a solicitor to draft a will so you should use a professional i.e. a Broker to arrange your new policy.

We are looking for virtually any motorist. There is a minimum premium of £150.00 but these days with the increase in premiums in the last year and the forecast future rises it will be a really lucky motorist who will have to pay less. We do not mind if you have had accidents, theft claims, or convictions - motor or otherwise since we have a wide range of companies to choose from (another reason why a Broker offers better value than a direct company.)
The following are VALID ways to reduce the amount you pay - only use them if they apply to you and you can stick with them
Restrict the Drivers. A policy restricted to one named driver or insured and spouse is usually the cheapest. If you cannot restrict the policy then you can name the drivers - or at least exclude drivers under 35, 30 or 25
Increase the excess. An excess is the first part of damage that you decide to pay for yourself. Normally the excess applies to accidental damage and is taken on a comprehensive policy but you may be able to increase a fire and theft excess in some cases. Please note that most policies now have a £100 fire theft and accidental damage excess as standard - not to mention additional excesses for drivers under 25. Some companies reduce the price by increasing the excess on the policy substantially.
Restrict the use of the vehicle. A policy restricted to pleasure use only is the cheapest, then commuting, then business use by the policyholder. If you travel between various places of work we recommend a policy providing business use.
Reduce the value of the vehicle. In the current climate the market value will have depreciated a lot over the last 12 months. Some insurers provide better quotes if the vehicle has a low value as they will pay less for a claim.
Change cover. If the vehicle is old it may be worthwhile looking for a quotation for Third Party Only or Third Party Fire and Theft.
