Critical Illness Insurance

Health cash benefit (Term Personal plans only)

This benefit will give you a fixed amount of cash if, for example, you have to go into hospital. Or it can provide a percentage of the cost of a number of treatments. We have shown the circumstances in which we would pay your benefit and the amount you will receive in the table below.

As well as the above, if you are outside the UK, the Channel Islands or The Isle of Man, for example on holiday, and your time abroad isn’t longer than 28 days, you will be covered for emergency in-patient and dental treatments. You can take this benefit out in one of three ways:

  • > as a single-life benefit;

  • > as a joint-life benefit;

  • > as a family benefit.

If you choose to take health cash benefit out as a family benefit you will be able to include all of your children, including step children and children that you have legally adopted (until they reach age 18). Each of your children will benefit from all the protection available. If you take out this benefit on a joint-life or family basis

and you and your partner need to claim in-patient or nursing-home benefit at the same time, we will pay you double your normal benefit each day. For example, if you and your partner go into hospital after a car accident, we would pay each of you £100 for every day you are both in hospital. You can include your children after we have set up your benefit. We will work out your premium again at the

time you make this change. There is a waiting period of six months from when you take out this benefit to when you can first claim for any of the treatments shown above. However, the waiting period for childbirth benefit is 12 months. There is no waiting period if you go into hospital as a casualty after an accident.

The maximum benefit that we will pay for each life covered is £4,000 each year.
