This is an interactive web-site. There are a wide range of products listed some of which are available from a range of insurer's, some from a limited range of insurers and others from a single insurer.. For each product you request we undertake to provide you with the insurer's name, a summary of the cover provided - including the main provisions and any significant or unusual restrictions or exclusions and any significant conditions or obligations a Private Customer must meet before you go on cover - if you find this information missing please e-mail us details and we shall correct it. We will also advise you on what basis we have made the recommendation. Quotation informationIf you obtain a quotation from the site then there will be a submission form to request further details and/ or go on cover. With the exception of private motor insurance and motorcycle insurance (both of which are provided on-line by a third party), hire car, twins, critical illness, income protection and financial advice (where forms are redirected to specialists) the form will generate an e-mail to us. As we continually update and improve our web-site we cannot guarantee any quotation beyond the end of the month in which it was obtained. If you request to go on cover then it will be effective on either the date you request OR when we have processed the quotation, payment has been made and we have confirmed to you - by e-mail that you are on cover - whichever is later. We undertake to reply to e-mails as quickly as possible - this normally means during the same or next working day depending when received. How to terminate the policy.Again with the exception of the policies mentioned above - policies can be terminated by contacting us by e-mail, phone or fax with a request that they be terminated. We cannot back-date a request for termination unless it is shown that alternative cover has been arranged elsewhere. Cover will cease otherwise on the expiry of the policy - usually it's renewal date unless renewed, or if we have to cancel the policy due to non-cooperation. We shall send you a letter by recorded delivery advising you prior to us cancelling the policy due to non-cooperation and will advise you3 weeks before a policy is due for renewal. Renewing a policyIf a policy is being paid by direct debit to an insurer we will release new documents a few days before the renewal date so you receive them without a break in cover. If the premium was paid to us direct or through one of our instalment schemes we will NOT automatically take payment. It is therefore important that you contact us before renewal date with your instructions. You are reminded that there are no days of grace under a motor insurance policy and we are obliged by law to lapse a policy the day after it has run out.. Cost of the policy. The initial cost of the policy will be indicated to you prior to inception. We will indicate any fees or charges made by us in addition to the premium. Please note that any initial fee or charge will only be made if the policy is 'net rated' i.e. we do not receive any commission from the insurer. WarningYou are reminded that for every insurance policy you are under a strict obligation to disclose all material facts. A material fact is any fact that may affect the insurance in any way: examples (but not restricted to) of material facts are : unspent convictions, previous claims or incidents which could have resulted in a claim, construction of property (house), medical conditions (health), young drivers (motor), all occupations - including part time. Failure to declare all material facts may make the policy voidable at the insurer's option and thus you will not be fully protected in the event of having to make a claim. If you are in doubt whether a fact is material it should be disclosed. Please note that we do not accept any liability should a policy be voided as a result of non-disclosure. Going on coverIt is not possible to go on cover for a policy arranged by B. Portwood & Co Ltd on this website - you may be able to go on cover through some of the affiliate schemes we have arranged. We will send you a statement of your demands and needs, a statement of price, key features/ policy summary or policy document and a proposal form before you can go on cover. If you use a submission form our server will send you a copy of our status disclosure document so you can view information about us before you take out a policy. Claims and policy administrationIt is not possible to process on-line claims handling or any policy adjustments. In all cases you must contact us (or the appropriate insurer helpline) by telephone, e-mail, fax or letter for us to be able to help you. We do not make any charge per-se for processing claims or contacting us other than via the internet. JurisdictionIn any insurance policy the parties have the right to agree the governing law and which court shall have jurisdiction. In the absence of any agreement the practice is for English law to apply. Full details will be included in any proposal/ prospectus forwarded to yourself for the purpose of arranging insurance. DataWe do not hold data on any computer that is connected to the internet save when we are on-line to read/ send e-mails or update our web-site. Information you provide to us will be used in obtaining quotations (and may be passed to other insurers/ intermediaries for such purpose), arranging and administering insurance policies, for marketing purposes by us only, and may be viewed by regulatory organisations for the purpose of ensuring we are compliant with operating procedures. |
