How to work out the premium

1) Select the class of use

CLASS A : Hacking, rearing, breeding, breaking, gymkhanas, showing, dressage, riding club and pony club events, show jumping (up to and including Foxhunters), driving

CLASS B: Intermediate and Novice eventing, hunting, hunter trials,long distance riding, show jumping (above Foxhunters

2) Look at the Basic Cover

Section 1 : Death from accident, illness or disease including necessary humane destruction. Cover applies whne the horse is kept in the UK and includes cover during foaling and while the horse or pony is intransit. No Excess.

Section 2: Loss by Theft or straying, including recovery costs up to £500 per incident - so you can advertise and offer a reward.

3) Choose the optional extra cover you may want

Section 3: Permanent Incapacity: - for horses up to 13 years old caused by accident, sickness or disease which makes the horse or pony incapable of fulfilling the purpose for which it is insured (excluding blemishes)

You keep the horse inretirement and receive either 60% or 100% of it's insured value

Section 4: Veterinary Fees

Up to £5,000 including £500 for ancilliary treatment for each claim subject to a £95 excess. Excludes recommended routine vaccinations or veterinary fees resulting from foaling.

Section 5: Liability Cover

Up to £1,000,000 per incident for a claim made against you or any authorised person for which you are legally responsible, excluding the first £250 of property damage. Not available to riding schools or any 'horse hire' arrangement nor in Northern Ireland

Additional Legal Expenses/ Helpline cover for £25,000 available for £9.75 per horse (up to 5)

4) Add together the premiums (Basic or Basic + Incapacity) + Veterinary Fees + Liability + Legal Expenses

Finally Add on Insurance premium Tax at 5%
