Classic Car Insurance - underwritten at Lloyds

Overview

This classic car insurance policy is designed for classic cars at least 15 years old. As a classic car, your car must not be your main mode of transport and it shouldn't be used for regular transportation to work (occasional commuting is permitted). The vehicle need not be garaged in most areas (other than certain city postcodes) and cover can be extended for occasional wedding use. Vehicles in excess of £30,000 would have to be referred to underwriters. "Track days, speed events" etc cannot be accommodated. Vehicles with a value less than £1,000 cannot be regarded as classic vehicles.

Insurance Premiums depend on the age of the vehicle, location where kept, annual mileage, engine size, the value of the vehicle, whether commuting or wedding use is needed - and a discount for car club members is provided.

Ungaraged cars must be kept in Area 1 (q.v.) and be worth no more than £12,000. If the vehicle is declared as garaged the insurance company will impose a warranty will be imposed stating that no cover applies unless the vehicle is kept in a proper locked garage when not in the course of a journey.

Cover

• Comprehensive : £50 ADFTXS to £5,000, £100 ADFTXS to £20,000 and £150 ADFTXS to £30,000 - see below for soft top and ungaraged vehicles
• Excludes driving other cars
• 30 days free cover in  Western Europe or EEC country
• Spare parts and accessories in/on vehicle or the declared locked garage are covered to 10% of value of car or £500 (max)
• Windscreen cover : £500 per year with a £50 excess per claim (waived if the glass is repaired)
• For Soft/removable tops personal effects will be excluded and the excess increased by £100
• Maximum number of drivers: 4

Vehicles to be referred i.e. underwriters might take them

• Caravanettes/ Camper Vans
• Land/ Range Rover and similar 4X4
• Modified vehicles
• Multi-seat (7+) vehicles
• American cars/ Kit cars and Grey Imports (Kit car insurance here)
• Underwriters will consider quotations for vehicle transporters used solely to take classic cars to shows etc and for vehicles off-road undergoing restoration.

Unacceptable vehicles i.e. underwriters wont take them

• Ferrari
• Lamborghini
• Maserati

Unacceptable occupations (not a full list) (unemployed not acceptable either)

Artist, amusement arcade, entertainment profession, fairground/ circus, general dealer, journalist, licensee, market/ motor trader, model, musician, professional sports person or unemployed.

Terms for conviction and claims history (applicable for EACH driver) (please refer if the below are exceeded) - additional requirements for proposers under 30

• 1 Claim not exceeding £5000 in total (own damage and third party costs)
• If any claim involves personal injury, costs more than £5000 or is malicious damage/ vandalism please refer.
• Any non-motor criminal convictions must be disclosed and referred
• Up to 2 CU, MS 10-30, MW, PC, PL, SP, TS
• ONE CD10-CD30 is acceptable for a 25% load if no other convictions
• ONE IN10 is acceptable for a 50% load if no other convictions
• ONE DR10-70 is acceptable for a 75% load if no other convictions and ban does not exceed 12 months

Agreed Value

• Subject to vehicle being garaged and 4 up-to-date photographs and a second vehicle
• If recently purchased the purchase price will be the agreed value unless extra work has been done
