A Landlords Insurance Policy

Like all insurance policies, a landlords insurance policy consists of several sections. General information about the various sections is included. You must not assume that your policy has all of the sections referred to (and will probably have different terms, conditions and exclusions). If in doubt contact your insurance broker for advice.

Damage - Conditions

Policies may have conditions. The most important one is AVERAGE. This means that if the sums insured are inadequate then the proposer is regarded as insurer for the difference and only a proportionate amount of a claim will be considered.

As the amount paid out is typically much more than the premium paid to cover the difference, we cannot emphasise too strongly the importance of insuring for the correct sums - usually on a 'new for old' basis.
