Many people are worried about the effects of having medical
treatment but are unable to afford the prices of private medical
insurance (but see here). Our medical
cash benefit plan offers certain fixed benefits should you
require medical treatment for a variety of conditions.
| 1. Optical |
75% of the amount paid up to the
maximum if you are prescribed new spectacles or contact
lenses. Not covered are optical-care contract schemes,
disposable contact lenses, repairs or other items |
| 2. Sight Test |
100% of the amount paid for a sight
test up to the amount shown. This benefit is included in
the appropriate maximum for Benefit 1 |
| 3. Dental |
75% of the amount paid up to the
appropriate maximum for dentures or dental treatment. Not
covered are dental-care contract schemes, repairs or
other items. |
| 4. Hospital-Day Case |
For each day you are in hospital for
diagnosis, investigations or treatment. Not covered is
the period imediately before or after an overnight stay
covered under Benefit 5, Out-patient attendance at a
hospital or GP fund holding practice or if you receive
maternity, psychiatric, geriatric, hospice or respite
care. Cover is for 10 days in any one benefit year. |
| 5. Hospital - in Patient |
For each night you are in hospital, to
a maximum of 91 nights in any benefit year. For chronic
conditions the benefit is limited to 125 nights overall.
Excluding hospital or nursing home accommodation arranged
for domestic reasons, hospital leave, the first 6 nights
you are in hospital for pre-natal, birth or post-natal
reasons. Chemical, alcohol or drug abuse or self
inflicted illness or injuries are also excluded. |
| 6. Hospital - Parental Stay |
For each night to a maximum of 91
nights in any one benefit year, where you have accompanied
your child who has been admitted as an in-patient overnight.
Hospital verification is required. |
| 7. Hospital - Accident Admission |
For each night to a maximum of 91
nights in any one benefit year, if you are admitted to a
hospital as an immediate casualty admission following an
accident - even if the qualifying period has not been
completed. |
| 8. Hospital - Joint In-Patient |
For each night you are in hospital, to
a maximum of 91 nights in any benefit year, if you and
your partner are in-patients at the same time. If both
partners are members both can claim. |
| 9. Hospital - Psychiatric Care |
For each night in hospital to a
maximum of 5 nights in any benefit year and up to 50
nights overall. |
| 10 Hospital - Care for Elderly |
For each night you are in hospital to
a maximum of 5 nights in any benefit year and up to 50
nights overall. |
| 11 Maternity/ Paternity/ Adoption |
Cash grant if you or your partner have
a baby or adopt a child under the age of 3 years. A birth
certificate or adoption papers showing both yours and
your partner's name is required. |
| 12 Consultation Inc. Homeopathy |
50% of the amount you have paid to a
consultant physician or surgeon, including X-rays,ECG and
pathology, up to the appropriate maximum when referred by
your own doctor. For Homeopathy the consultant must be a
member of the Faculty of Homeopaths. Treatment is excluded, as are consultations for legal, insurance and
employment reasons. |
| 13 Physiotherapy/ Osteopathy/ Chiropractic |
50% of the amount you have paid, up to
the appropriate maximum to one of the following:
Physiotherapy: A State Registered Physiotherapist (SRP):
Osteopathy A member of; the Register of the General
Ostopathic Council, the College of Osteopaths (MCO), the
Guild of Osteopaths (MGO) or the register of Osteopaths (MRO):
Chiropractic: A member of the Register of the General
Council or the British Chiropractic Association (MBCA). |
| 14 Acupuncture |
50% of the amount paid up to the
appropriate maximum, to a member of the British
Acupuncture Council. |
| 15 Chiropody |
50% of the amount paid up to the
appropriate maximum, to a State Registered Chiropodist. |
| 16 Surgical Appliances |
50% of the amount paid up to the
appropriate maximum for surgical appliances recommended
by a general practitioner. Written evidence is required. |
| 17 Hearing Aids |
50% of the amount paid up to the
appropriate maximum for new hearing aids. Excluded:
hearing aid contract schemes, repairs or other items. |
| 18 Health Screening |
50% of the amount paid up to the
appropriate maximum to a medically qualified practitioner.
Excluded are examinations for legal, insurance or
employment reasons. |
| 19 Convalescence |
For you to stay in a convalescent home
for up to two weeks within 3 months of you leaving
hospital. We must agree that convalescence would help you
recover. Arrangements must be made by the Scheme and
travel expenses approved. |
| 20 Accidental Death |
A separate policy for this cover is
sent with confirmation of your membership. |
| 21 Injury and Disablement |
A separate policy for this cover is
sent with confirmation of your membership |
| 22 Stress Counseling |
Providing caring, practical advice in
the following areas: redundancy, Welfare, Debt and
Bereavement |
| 23 Medical Information |
Information on medical conditions,
self-help groups, waiting lists etc. The NHS may withdraw
this facility without notice. |

Are there any claims limits? : Each benefit can be claimed any
number of times subject to the benefit period maximum.
What about nationality? : You must live in the UK but are
covered for 28 days days abroad each year.
