History of PMI

Private medical insurance started becoming increasingly popular in the 1980s when the Government tried to encourage it by offering tax breaks. It was their belief that by doing this it could help with the treatment that our ever aging population was going to require thus releasing resources for those people who could not afford the cover. In 2005 the Conservative Party are proposing that anyone who wishes to take advantage of PMI could benefit by having half the costs paid by the NHS

Current position

Private medical insurance is not as strongly in favour with the Labour Government. Instead they have devoted resources into trying to improve the NHS - although with stories about the mRSA virus, cancelled operations, blood clots, unhygenic wards etc, there seems to be a lot left to do.

Private medical insurance is often provided by companies on group schemes - we can quote for these if required and often it is when people are older that they start considering cover for themselves. The premium, however, normally depends on the age of the person and for people over 65 cover is often unavailable. We recommend that you consider taking out a policy as soon as possible. This is where our policy comes in. The earlier you take out the policy the cheaper it will be in your old age!
