Introduction

Having provided online travel insurance for many years, we have now arranged a unique scheme initially targeting the over 65, however with rates and terms that are competitive throughout the standard travel insurance market. The product is NOT a backpacker policy as it provides substantially better benefits than these classes of business.

What Extra Benefits are there?

For customers who need them, the following options are available.

  • Golf Equipment - Including a 'Hole In One' benefit

  • Business Travel - Including Equipment, Samples, Replacement Hire, Increase Personal Accident Cover

  • Travel Dispute  - covers disputes with firms that have organised the holiday (Legal expenses is provided automatically to cover other eventualities)

  • Natural Catastrophe - Additional costs following travel disruption due to major natural disasters.

Please note that End Supplier Failure (Including Scheduled Airline Failure) is covered as standard.

Other Facilities?

We will quote on-line for one-way trips. The trip must last a maximum of 10 days and cover ceases once through customs at the final destination. (a 10-day rate is applied)

We may quote for customers who have (just) left the UK. Providing the date of departure is within the last 5 days then cover can usually be arranged at standard rates.

We will accept risks where the customer does not know the exact date of return. Enter the most likely date (or a date beyond it). We will not give a refund if the customer returns before that date and it is at the underwriter's sole discretion whether to extend cover beyond the original expiry date.

What is the policy excess?

The policy excess is : £100 - Bronze/ Economy, £50.00 Silver, £25.00 Gold. The excess is age independent - unlike some companies who increase the medical excess to £250.00 for the older person, yet still display a lower excess on quotes.

It is up to the traveller, but in our opinion it is probably best to delete the excess when buying the Bronze policy (saving £100+ per claim for a small additional premium) and keep the excess when buying the Gold Policy (£25.00+ per claim saving for quite a large additional premium). All our quotes are shown with and without the excess. (Some policy sections carry an excess even if the main excess is deleted).

Are there any age limits?

A Single trip policy is limited to 85 when the policy is effected. An Annual policy is limited to 74 when cover commences.

Are there any limits to the length of the single trip?

The maximum length of a single trip (for any age up to and including 85) is 365 days.

Is there a maximum premium?

There is a maximum premium of £3,000 including IPT per person. This premium will only be exceeded if there are medical conditions or certain activities are selected for the older person.

Is there a limit to the number of people that can be covered?

A family is defined as two parents and up to 4 children under 18 (23 if in FTE) living with them or at College. The system can quote for up to 19 people in each age bracket. Discounts are available for large groups.

What is the maximum length for any one trip under the annual travel insurance policy?

For annual travel insurance the maximum length of any one trip is chosen by the purchaser. The options (for any age) are 31, 45, 61 and 93 days/ trip.

Is Independent Travel Covered under an annual travel insurance policy

Yes

Do I need to specify whether I want an annual policy or just a single trip?

We emphasize that cover for an annual travel insurance policy does not commence until the starting date, whereas cancellation cover for a single trip policy commences immediately. If you decide to purchase an annual travel policy, having previously wanted a single trip policy make sure you go back to the quote and amend the start date.

What restrictions are there on winter sports?

The maximum age is 74 The annual policy provides 17 days cover automatically (Activities Class 'C'). This can be extended to unlimited cover for a double premium. Not all winter sports are covered and Heli-Ski-ing is rated as Activities Class 'D'.

What about other Hazardous Activities?

A wide range of other activities, including working under various conditions is available. Customers can select the level of cover required through the quotation system, where full information is provided.

What about medical Conditions?

You will have to call a bespoke medical screening line and obtain a quotation to cover pre-existing medical conditions, if any. A wide range of medical conditions can be covered.

How will policy documents be received?

Once the policy is purchased you will be provided with a web-page containing a schedule of benefits. We recommend that it is printed off immediately but a copy will be e-mailed to you, together with the full policy wording. Should it prove necessary we can re-send the e-mail to you if you contact us.
