Whilst it may be convenient to buy an annual travel insurance policy, if you are over 70 it may be worthwhile considering taking out insurance each time you want to go on holiday as, unless you take many trips, it could actually be cheaper (not to mention better cover) than an annual travel insurance policy.

The maximum length for any one single trip will be 30 days. Ski-ing and winter sports cover will not be available (but is on single trip policies).

Is an annual travel insurance policy the best?

Because there are few insurance companies providing annual travel insurance for people over 70, it is likely that, unless you intend to do a lot of traveling, taking out several single trip travel insurance could well be cheaper. This may be your only option if you intend to travel for, say, 60 or 90 days.

A second point - you may find that the cost of covering pre-existing medical conditions is much higher on an annual travel insurance rather than on a single trip. This is because you are buying cover for a full 12 months (you may find with some companies that you have to undergo medical screening before each trip)
