General Information
Independent Travel
If you want family travel insurance for a single trip then there aren't too many problems - just select the countries you intend to visit, the period and the ages of the children in the family to obtain a cheap quote. For an annual policy, however, you should check whether the children in your family will want to travel on their own (called independent travel). Many policies will not allow independent travel - if you need this cover and are unsure if the policy quoted provides it, please call us on 01207 509446.
Policy excess
If you want family travel insurance then you should watch the excess on the policy - the excess is often applied per person per section per event - so if several family members are affected then the excess will apply several times. Although we cannot give advice, we suggest you look at the BIBA travel insurance policy when you obtain your quote as the excess is low (£40.00) and the maximum excess per event is only £80.00 - some internet policies have a £100 excess that could be applied four or five times after a single event - now you know why they are so cheap!
Activities
The family travel insurance, you select, should be chosen on the activities that you and your children might participate in on the holiday. Obviously younger children are less likely to participate in scuba diving or, for winter sports, ski jumping etc, however many teenagers will want to partake in more active sports and pursuits. Pre existing Conditions
We always recommend you choose a family travel insurance policy that will cover pre existing conditions of all family members. We occasionally get requests for one member of a family to be covered for pre existing conditions whilst the other family members buy a much cheaper policy. The problem with this is that the cheap policy may not pay out for additional costs should the member of the family with the pre existing condition have to return home for instance.

Please remember that for travel insurance quotation purposes a family is defined as "two parents and all their children under 18 living with them." However we do have policies that will cover children under 23 living with you as long as they are in full time education. Please call us if you fit into the wider definition.
