How to compare travel insurance policies.

The easiest way to compare travel insurance policies is the price. Price comparison websites indeed do little else than compare on price however the natural effect of this is that travel insurance policies offered through these websites are continually offering poorer and poorer cover and it is important that you compare the cover when deciding which policy best meets your requirements.

There are three ways you can compare travel insurance benefits and you should consider all three.

  1. Compare the excess - how much you will have to contribute to each claim.

Whilst policies we offer have a £35, £40 or £50 excess (which in some cases may be deleted) many policies on comparison websites now have a £75 or £100 excess - especially the cheaper ones. How else do you expect them to offer a cheaper premium.

  2. Compare policy limits - the maximum benefit that can be paid out for each claim

Surprisingly I would not consider the medical benefit limit to be of great importance for comparison purposes - we are not aware of any medical claim exceeding £2,000,000 so companies offering £5,000,000 or £10,000,000 are basically offering a benefit that they know will never be needed - purely as a promotional exercise. However I would certainly recommend comparing policy limits for baggage (especially single article/ jewellery limits) and, if going on a very expensive holiday, make sure that adequate cancellation cover is provided.

  3. Compare policy benefits - is terrorism cover provided for example.

The Government noted that 10,000,000 people traveled without cover against terrorism activities last year and events at Glasgow Airport (30.6.2007) show that terrorists can attack anywhere.

Fortunately you can compare all these benefits through our online travel insurance quotation system quickly and easily as well as ensure you have cover for medical conditions and also buy the policy that best meets your demands and needs.
